“If We Stay Still” uses sound, video, sculpture, and music to create an immersive, interactive environment in which stillness and action feel both unnervingly impossible and urgently necessary. Exploring how our patterns of movement impact the world we live in, this installation reflects on the potential of slowing our movement throughout the planet while also speculating on what the planet might look and sound like in a geo-engineered future.
A collaboration between artist / researcher / filmmaker Jeremy Bolen, composer / sonic artist Katherine Young, and music technologist / performer-composer / researcher Alexandria Smith, the installation speculates on a not-too-distant future where the sky has been engineered to block out the sun, and once extinct species have been brought back through de-extinction methods.
The work has been presented at the Goat Farm’s SITE (2025) and the Science Gallery (Atlanta).
